Tyler Mahle to have Tommy John surgery

by admin

Right-hander Tyler Mahle will undergo season-ending Tommy John surgery on his right forearm, the Twins announced on Thursday.

Mahle was removed from his start on April 27 against Kansas City with noticeably diminished velocity after completing four innings and allowing one run on two hits while striking out six batters.

Mahle, 28, went 1-2 with a 3.16 ERA in five starts this season, his seventh in the Majors. The right-hander was acquired by the Twins from the Reds in a Trade Deadline deal last August and is set to become a free agent after this season.
