The Worcester Red Sox listed the distance at 515 feet.
Statcast didn’t even include a distance, though NBC Sports reported that the website initially had it at 499.
But either way, Bobby Dalbec blasted a massive home run during a Triple-A game Friday night — and the absurd, unofficial measurement from the team’s account adds even more intrigue to the 27-year-old’s contribution to Worcester’s 9-8 win over the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, the Phillies’ minor-league affiliate, at Polar Park.
Dalbec took a 1-1 pitch from Michael Plassmeyer and sent it over the left-center field fence, pulling the Red Sox within 3-2 in the first inning on his solo homer.
The solo homer was just part of the big night for Dalbec, who went 4-for-5 with three RBIs.
According to Statcast, the ball left Dalbec’s bat with an exit velocity of 115.6.
The Worcester Twitter account included the 515-foot distance in its initial tweet, while also using the same number in a later tweet with two photos that showed Dalbec’s face as he crossed the plate.
Dalbec played 133 games with the Red Sox in 2021 and 117 last year, but Dalbec — a fourth-round pick by the team in 2016 — lasted just eight games in 2023 before getting sent to Worcester.
In 27 games with Worcester this season, Dalbec is hitting.286 with a .954 OPS. He has six home runs and 22 RBIs.
His massive home run likely came at a good time for him, too, as Peter Gammons reported Sunday that the Red Sox were “actively marketing” Dalbec — who made appearances at first base, second base, third base and shortstop in the majors in 2023, while starting in right field Friday.
And depending on its actual distance, a home run of that caliber in the majors would’ve included Dalbec on an impressive list.
According to a September 2022 article from Yahoo! Sports, Nomar Mazara hit the longest homer measured in the Statcast era in 2019 (505 feet), with Giancarlo Stanton — then with the Marlins — and C.J. Cron tied for second with 504-foot blasts in 2016 and 2022, respectively.
