Reds first baseman Joey Votto is back as the team looks to up its win streak to nine games when it faces the Rockies.

Activated off the injured list, Votto will bat sixth in his 2023 season debut on Monday night, exactly 10 months since undergoing left shoulder surgery to repair his torn rotator cuff and biceps.

“Health has been an issue, and I’m back to full health,” Votto said in a news conference at Great American Ball Park on Monday.

Votto, 39, batted .167 with two home runs, a double and five RBIs in 12 games with Louisville during his second rehab assignment. He exited Sunday’s game vs. St. Paul after he was 0-for-1 with a walk in two plate appearances.

In the final guaranteed year of his 10-year, $225 million contract, Votto has a $20 million club option for 2024 that carries a $7 million buyout.
