NEW YORK — Right-hander Dane Dunning had his best outing of the season, but he picked up a no-decision in the Rangers’ 4-2 victory in 10 innings over the Yankees on Friday night at Yankee Stadium. Dunning pitched a season-high seven-plus innings and allowed two runs on five hits, striking out two.
Dunning was out of the game when Texas scored the go-ahead run in the top of the 10th inning against right-hander Michael King. The game was tied at 2 when Adolis García led off with a two-run homer, his 17th of the season.
The first run Dunning allowed occurred in the second inning. It looked as if the Yankees had a potential big inning with runners on second and third and no outs, but New York could only muster one run. With one out, Anthony Rizzo scored on a groundout by Billy McKinney to take a 1-0 lead.
Dunning had a 2-1 lead going into the eighth inning, but he left the game with two runners on and no outs. The Yankees ended up tying the game on a sacrifice fly by Kyle Higashioka.
Right-hander Joe Barlow ended up with the victory, while Will Smith picked up his 14th save.
