Kolby Allard strikes out 8 in spot start, Braves sweep Twins

by admin

ATLANTA — Things are going so well for the Braves, they claimed a 3-0 win over the Twins on Wednesday afternoon at Truist Park with the help of a former top prospect who was brought to the Majors to make essentially his third rehab start.

It seemed crazy late Tuesday night, when the Braves announced Kolby Allard would be starting against Minnesota. The 25-year-old hurler tore his right oblique muscle during Spring Training and had totaled just 6 2/3 innings over two rehab starts. But there were no signs of rust as he tallied eight strikeouts and limited the Twins to three hits over 4 2/3 innings.

Allard’s effort helped the Braves sweep the three-game series, extend their winning streak to five games and improve to 20-4 in June. Ronald Acuña Jr. scored on Matt Olson’s RBI double in the first and singled to move Michael Harris II into position to score on Ozzie Albies’ sacrifice fly in the third.
