Luis Robert Jr. will not play in 2023 All-Star Game

Luis Robert Jr., the lone White Sox representative at the 2023 All-Star Game, will not take part in the contest due to a calf injury suffered during Monday’s T-Mobile Home Run Derby.

Robert reported right calf tightness during the first round of the Derby, in which he hit 28 home runs to take down the Orioles’ Adley Rutschman in bonus time. He advanced to the semifinals of the Derby, hitting 22 more homers but falling 35-22 to the Rays’ Randy Arozarena.

The White Sox said Robert underwent an MRI in Seattle and is listed as day to day. He will be held out of the All-Star Game as a precaution and will be evaluated again before the start of the season’s second half Friday in Atlanta.

Robert, who is tied for third in the Majors with 26 home runs, is in the midst of a breakout season for Chicago. He is hitting .271/.330/.569 with 51 RBIs and eight stolen bases on a White Sox team currently in fourth place in the AL Central.
