MIAMI — Luis Arraez knocked a walk-off single to right to snap the Marlins’ season-high eight-game skid with a 3-2 victory in 10 innings — their first of the second half — over the Rockies on Sunday afternoon at loanDepot park.
It was Miami’s sixth walk-off win of the season, and its first since July 5.
Righty Pierce Johnson intentionally walked left-handed-hitting Jesús Sánchez to lead off the frame and set up a double-play opportunity. Dane Myers struck out before Nick Fortes walked to load the bases. Facing Arraez, the Rockies went with a five-man infield and put the two outfielders into left and left-center. So Arraez went to right field for the easy hit.
Arraez went 3-for-4 to raise his batting average to .379.
Left-hander Jesús Luzardo struck out a career-high 13 batters over seven innings, but closer A.J. Puk surrendered a game-tying homer to Randal Grichuk in the ninth. Puk has blown three of his last four save chances.
